My cat spends about 85% of her time in this bed during the winter. It doesn't get overly hot on its own, but it warms up significantly when she is sleeping in it. I also haven't noticed a significant jump in the electric bill when its own. This is the second year she's had the bed and the heating element is still working fine (though I'm not sure it will survive another year, but they are fairly cheap to repace) She is a small cat though--she weighs about 10 pounds--and she fills up the bed nicely.

This is a great cat bed, and my 18lb orange tabby fits very well inside. The hut is not meant to completely cover the cat - only half cover, and the bigger the cat the more the top stays up:) If you want something your cat or dog can burrow in and hide, than this is not what you want. Try the kitty crinkle sack:)The heating pad is wonderful and the size of the pad does not matter as it heats up evenly when the kitty is in it. My kitty LOVES this thing, and manages to get his big tabby body curled up inside very nicely, with room around him to spare:) Sometimes he will lay on the canopy, but he does not seem to mind and I pull it over him when I notice:) You can also adjust the canopy by bending the wire frame - it does not damage it and helps it to stay up, especially if you bend the wire where it meets the bed (it says a lot of this in the description too) but it really works well! I LOVE this thing!

When I first opened the box, I was sure I would have to send this back. My cat is just under 1 year but only 3 lbs and the bed looked huge. I also was not thrilled that the top droops as other reviews mentioned. But then she started using it and she snuggles under the top and it sort of serves as a blanket on top of her. The size is no longer an issue now that she uses it, and if she ever grows, she'll grow into it. Keep in mind that it does not seem warm to us, but it heats up nicely when the cat is on it. All in all, it's a success and keeps her warm at night when the temp drops. Also, I have already washed it and it came out great. A definite recommend for this product. Just for reference, my other cat is about 9-10 lbs. and would be about the size of the cat in the picture shown.

I purchased this bed for my older kitty who has arthritis. She uses it all the time, so it's serving its purpose. The only thing is the design of the half cover...it doesn't stand up and just folds and takes up some room, so if the cover were solid instead of just fabric that would be ideal...nevertheless, my kitty's been much happier with the heat on her joints...so I'm glad I found it for her.
P.S. I got my cat whose just 6 lbs now, to use the bed by placing the blanket she's been sleeping on next to it, then over it and then removing the blanket, when she realized there was warmth there. She is a very little cat, so I expect this would only work for small cats or kittens, as other reviewers have said.

I bought this specifically for my cat who prefers to remain outdoors. I built him an outdoor bed out of wood and lots of padding for extra warmth,. I thought the kitty hut would be a good addition to the existing bed. Well, he does not care for it, yet. My female cat slept in it for a while, but she changes her sleeping areas often. I like the hut, and hopefully Pepper will learn to love it once the weather gets really cold. I am happy with the purchase, but my cats are weird!
