When I first tried to get my cat to sleep in the bed, she jumped right out and avoided it like the plague. I realized that this was just a case of education. She didn't know that it was nice and warm.
Here's what I did to get her to love it.
- First, I put it a little higher up. Cats like being high and not on the ground.
- When she was sleeping on the couch, I picked her up (still in a ball) and plunked her down into the bed. I kept petting her for a minute and then let go. She stayed.
- I only needed to do that once. Now it's her preferred spot.

This bed is awesome! I noticed some reviewers saying that they couldn't get their cats to use it, so I wanted to address that. I have two cats, and one of them is a very frail, arthritic 11-year old female who has always REFUSED to go near any cat beds. (She is extremely stubborn.) She was constantly cold and would always steal our seats on the leather couch after we were sitting on it, which got really annoying. She also harrasses our male cat out of his spot after he warms it up, lol.
I knew I would have trouble adjusting her to this bed. So when the Amazon box came, I very casually opened it in front of her while completely ignoring her. When she sniffed the bed, I told her "no, Misty, that's Mommy's bed." LOL I rubbed a little catnip on it, plugged it in and my male cat got in it. This time when Misty came around I told her "No, Misty, that's Shadow's bed." Needless to say, she decided it was HER bed, and so now we're all happy!
A few other reviewers complained that the bed doesn't get warm enough. I disagree. When not in use, the bed stays relatively room temperature-ish, but after the cat gets in, it warms to 102. any warmer would be bad for the cat. This is a great product, and it shipped really fast!

Before purchasing this kitty bed I've read a number of reviews both negative and positive. I wasn't sure whether my cat will like it or hate it, but I did purchase it and it turned out to be a great find. I will however make one important statement, "This product is not for all cats and may not be suitable for all seasons!"
The kitty bed is large enough to fit grown male cat under 18 pounds. Cats actually enjoy to curl in tight spaces to control their body temperature more accurately. Most cats will not enjoy a bed which is too large. You can actually set-up an experiment by taking a lid off a large shoe box. If you cat climbs into a shoe box on its own and stays there for a considerable amount of time, he/she will most likely enjoy the kitty bed.
Most likely your cat will not use this kitty bed during the summer time. Also, your cat is not likely to use this bed if you live in a warm state where outside temperature does not drop bellow 65-70. This may not be true for older cats (12 years old and older). These cats will enjoy a bed which can keep them warm and reduce joint pain. I would say that late Fall, Winter, and early Spring are the best times to own this product.
Many past customers wrote that this bed barely gets warm. It's true, but it does get warm enough for your cat to enjoy it. I do not think cats would enjoy a bed which gets too hot. Cats are well aware of their body temperature and once they sense that it's increasing beyond accepted levels they will try to find a cooler place. I did not measure the temperature inside the bed, but I did notice that it's higher than room temperature.

We have an old cat who was spending more time on the floor register at night than in his bed. The heated cat bed was something I hadn't considered before, but we decided to give it a try, for the cat's sake. He explored it as soon as I replaced his old bed, then was back in it napping within just a couple of minutes. He has been sleeping in it most all night, as well as spending a lot of time during these cold winter days. It is roomy enough for Sarge to spread out in it, it seems to heat just enough to make him comfortable and it is not overpriced. Sarge likes it, so I like it.
